Snorkel trip (lost in translation)

Today Jules and I headed to Sengeggi to catch a boat and go snorkeling around some nearby  islands. We spent a good part of yesterday trying to find the best snorkeling spot in Lombok. Apparently the best spots are around Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong and Gili Sudat, three tiny islands off the southwest of Lombok.  However with the Internet connection resembling something from the 1990 dial up era finding any information on how to get there was hard. After about an hour of searching we finally found a company to take us. Although their English was pretty shabby, we think we made a breakthrough after he confirmed we would see all ‘three islands’.

On catching the boat to head to ‘three islands’ we were slightly concerned as to the direction the boat was heading in. On chatting to our guide he informed us that we were actually on our  way to Gili AirGili Trawangan and Gili Meno. Somehow our trip had got lost in translation and we were off to explore the islands we were going to be staying at in three days time. A good $200 bucks well spent!!!! He did however inform us that if we did want amazing snorkeling we should indeed head to Gili Nanggu. A knife in the ribs.

The ‘lost in translation’ theme made it to lunch, where Jules ordered two bowls of rice and a soup (he meant to order mixed seafood fried rice).

Anyhow we had a great time, we saw some amazing fish.

Bad side: we got very burnt. I’m like a refresher sweet.

Red on one side, yellow on the other.
