For our anniversary weekend (November 5th) we headed to Halls Gap, Dunkield for the weekend to stay at The Royal Mail Hotel – a Wine Lovers dream, with an award-winning 28,000 bottle wine cellar.
The first night, we had a wine tasting experience in the cellar, followed by a 5-course meal at the restaurant.
The next day, we headed off for a 3hour, 7k hike up Mount Sturgeon. It was a little chilly and we did get a bit of rain, but the view was well worth it at the top.
That night, we stayed in a cottage right next to Mount Sturgeon, with amazing views. It was such a beautiful, secluded location. We brought a few bottles of wine from the cellar (one of which was 30 years old and was the smoothest wine I have ever tasted!) and took them back to the cottage, sat outside watching the sunset (with a few showers and double rainbows thrown in for good measure). As it got cold, we made a fire and snuggled up inside. I forgot how amazing country living can be when you get all the small details right.
After breakfast, we decided to hike Mount Abrupt, another nearby mountain near where we were staying. The walk was slightly more strenuous than the first, but the views were much more magnificent so we didn’t mind at all.
